There are a lot of other advantages of owning an electric vehicle apart from it being eco friendly. It has better dynamics and has more boot space.
Electric vehicles are gaining more and more attention these days. Increase in fuel prices hits the wallets of everyone in the country so badly. On the other hand, pollution is causing a great trouble in metros like Delhi. On top of these the government is planning to make the nation’s traffic 100 percent electric by 2030.
EVs are not just green but they have many advantages other than being eco-friendly.
Since they just have a motor and a battery pack (which is usually packed in the floor) they provide more free space in the hood and the trunk sections. This not only helps to load additional luggage but absorbs impacts better during accidents which is a good safety feature. Packing the batteries inside the floor has two main advantages. First, this makes the chassis safe as these batteries makes the floor very rigid and do not let the cabin crumple in case of an impact. Also, since one of the heaviest parts of an EVs are their batteries and they are placed as low as possible in the floor, this maintains the centre of gravity as low as possible which makes the ride more comfortable, reduces rolling and provides more stability at high speeds.
Electric vehicles are so silent in working. Unlike IC engines, EVs makes absolutely no noise. This can disappoint the enthusiasts however.
They are known for their instant acceleration. Just floor the pedal and you can feel the jerk which is a whole new level of experience. EVs do not need gears. Since motors can serve high torque over wider range of engine speeds. This means less weight, less moving parts enabling better efficiency and serviceability. However, some vehicles do come with gear box if the motor is small or if performance has to be increased. There is no transmission shaft required in an all-wheel drive vehicle where mostly two to four motors are used and hence the transmission tunnel is absent increasing the comfort of the middle passenger.
Technologies like regenerative braking which are seen in almost all EVs now and it increases the efficiency of the vehicle.
Electric motors do not require idle speeds and the speed of the motor is zero during a halt. This improves the efficiency of the vehicle mainly in traffic as no energy is wasted for idling the motor.
Apart from these EVs are non-pollutant. If the source of electricity for charging the batteries is from a sustainable source, the cause no pollution.
